Welcome to Allenstown Alt
This web site exists to inform Allenstown residents about important community activities and public events, to get voters more engaged in the political process, to present clear and detailed information about upcoming town elections, to help residents understand where their taxes are being spent, and to help bring about a more prosperous future direction for the town.
The NeighborhoodAllenstown lies in Merrimack County in southern New Hampshire midway between Manchester and Concord along the Route 3 corridor on the east side of the Merrimack River.
Town Government Structure
Local government consists of several governing bodies (AKA kingdoms) that perform separate functions and fund their operations through distinct taxation. The Town Government, School District, and Sewer Commission administer their own functions, working in cooperation with each other but independent of each other.
Revenues and Expenditures
Every year around May, the next year's budgeting process begins. By October, the Selectmen review the Town Government and Sewer Dept. budgets. By November and December, the Budget Committee diligently reviews ALL the budgets and decides whether to accept them as is, issue cuts, or (heaven forbid!) suggest increases.
After looking at all the budget narratives, spreadsheets, and other documents on the town web site, you wonder how to understand it all. For a simpler view of the budget documents, go to the 2017 Revenues and Expenditures.
