For use at public meetings
On those TV shows that include audience participation, they have an operator moving a WIFI boom microphone from one person to another in the audience. Such a device would be a major asset since it would allow everyone at a meeting to hear the person in the audience who was speaking.
If that proved to be too expensive, a roving operator could pass a standard handheld WIFI microphone from one audience participant to another.
