Another Great Outing on the Town Hall LawnDateline: Oct. 13, 2019 Photos by Sandy McKenney and Michael Frascinella The Fall Concert was held on Sunday October 6th on the Town Hall Lawn. The weather for the preceding few weeks had been unsettled with many cool, cloudy days. Saturday October 5th was sunny but Sunday the 6th was mostly cloudy but with temps in the 60s. It was cooler than hoped for but comfortable with a light jacket. The show still went on. Early Arrivals Several people also arrived early as things were getting set up.
Food Concession At around 3 p.m. members of Catfish Howl arrived in several cars and set up their gear at the gazebo. The Fire Department crew followed close behind and set up their canopies, tables, cooking equipment, and supplies next to the Speedwagon garage.
Library and Student Council Setups The Library crew and ARD Student Council soon appeared and set up their canopies and tables on the lawn.
ARD Logo Items and Kids' Games The ARD Student Council set out an attractive display of school branded items for sale, while next to them, the Library crew set up games and crafts for the children in attendance.
Catfish Howl Performing At 4:00, EDC Chairman Michael Frascinella welcomed attendees and reviewed several projects that the committee was planning. With that, he said, "Take it away, Catfish Howl!"
Fall Decorations To make it more festive, Jeff Venegas's mom had decorated the gazebo with hay bales, corn stalks, pumpkins, mums, and a pair of homemade stuffed bears.
Attendees Chow Down While the band played familiar tunes with a Cajun flair, people enjoyed the soups and grilled cheese sandwiches from the Fire Department's food concession. Below, Kathleen Pelissier and company were enjoying some fresh grilled sandwiches.
Sign Up Table for the Town Library Meanwhile, Library personnel were helping people sign up for library cards. This demonstrated that you can read and listen to music at the same time.
Youngster Tried Out for the Band During the second hour, the band enlisted some of the kids to join them. Here was an enthusiastic youngster standing at the front and playing a metal washboard, also known as a Cajun "frotter," while a band member acted as conductor.
Nearing the End of the Concert Many people stayed after the mid-concert break and could be seen dancing in place to the rhythm of the music. Two EDC members spontaneously went "bras dessus bras dessous" (arm in arm) and danced in circles for a minute. It happened so quickly that no one had time to snap a photo.
The event ended when Catfish Howl played their last song and shouted out "Thank you, Allenstown!" Many people remarked that they really enjoyed the music. What You Can DoSend mail to the EDC and offer your comments on what you thought of the concert.
