Town Hall Check town web site for current business hours. The Last Concert of the YearDateline: Aug. 18, 2021 It was a fine day for a concert. On the preceding Thursday, several volunteers had set up the tent frame for the new tent that the EDC had purchased. The early attendees set up under the shade tree while volunteers set up the new tent. There was a bit of grunt work as they strapped the canopy onto the new tent frame and made several technical adjustments, resulting in a slight delay to the start of the concert. But it provided welcome shade from the sun.
The band set up their gear in the gazebo that had been renovated and repainted by local Girl Scout Troop 2060. They did a fine job on the gazebo and it was hoped that this volunteer work would enable them to attain their Girl Scouts Silver Award. Notice in the following photos that the broken louvers in the roof vents have been repaired, the front railings were given a new design, the deck was leveled, and a fresh coat of paint was applied to the gazebo giving it that new look. At the start of the concert, Louise Chalmers, Sales Manager for Hillsbrook Village, presented a check to band leader, Steve Butler, which was their donation as new business neighbors in town. Louise stayed for the concert and talked to several attendees about what their new facility will have to offer.
If you look closely on the left side, you can see our very own Library Trustee, Mike McGee, playing backup guitar. The 1950s ice cream truck stopped to visit for a while and several children could be seen going with their parents to get a treat. This writer treated himself to an orange creamsicle. A local guitarist filled in during the intermission with a brief musical history of the Oldies using only four chords and then sang one patriotic song by Aaron Tippin. With no one available to run the food concession, several pizza pies were ordered from Olympus Pizza and a case of bottled water was stored in ice-filled coolers. These went on sale during the intermission. After setting out seven plain and pepperoni pizzas, a steady stream of customers came to the food table. Our Town Administrator soon became the Food Administrator. By the end of the concert, there was only one pizza left plus several bottles of water. During the second hour, a minute of this old favorite song about a certain frozen concoction was recorded. (A nearby dog added a few yips.) Even though the band put on an enjoyable two hour show, the time seemed to pass by too quickly. What You Can DoAlthough this was the last concert in the series, the EDC said they were planning a movie night on Saturday September 18. Let's hope for another day of clear weather for that event. The featured movie will be "The Croods," an animated comedy about prehistoric cave people who lived in the "Croodaceous Era."
