NEW, EXPANDED, AND RENOVATED BUSINESSES

Since passage of the EDC business tax exemption, the EDC has devoted its energies to work with the town to attract new business or encourage existing businesses to expand or renovate. The following list shows the results of those ongoing efforts.

2025 BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

Plourde Sand & Gravel – January 16, 2025
McInnis Auctions presided over the sale of this 68 acre property bordered by Granite St. and Route 3 & 28. Greenlake Asset Management of California offered the final bid of $2,400,000. Future development of this business-zone property is yet to be determined.


2024 BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

Parker Mountain Machine – Dec. 2024

This business designs and manufactures custom firearm and automotive components. The Planning Board approved the conversion of the former optical shop on Library Street in December. Renovations were ongoing.


It Takes a Village Child Care – Late October 2024

This Pembroke-based business purchased the former Sunrise Baptist Church on Route 28. In June 2024, they received Planning Board approval for the conversion to a child care center. Renovations were completed in late October.


Suncook River Camp – May 2024

Under new ownership, the camp was getting a total renovation. Located on Route 28 right on the Suncook River, it offers seasonal and short term rentals, a camp store, canoe and kayak rentals, a swimming pool, vintage campers and modern RVs for rent, and an upgraded bathhouse and toilets.


Integrity Plumbing and Heating LLC – March 2024

This new business has over 10 years experience with Heating, Ventilating & Air Conditioning Service, Water Heater Installation & Repair Service. See the Town Business Directory for more details.

2023 BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

Hillsbrook Village Senior Living – Oct. 2023

A Grand Opening was held for this brand new, four-story facility on Chester Turnpike, offering 119 units suited for independent living, assisted living, and memory care living. Scores of residents had already moved in.

25 Canal Residential Lofts – July 2023

A Grand Opening marked the completion of the conversion of the historic China Mill into 150 luxury apartments. Rental applications quickly followed for one-, two-, and three-bedroom units.

Andrew S. Thomas Landscaping – June 2023

A landscaping business replaced the vehicle repair shop located in the blue building behind Complete Autobody at 1 Allenstown Rd. Their services include lawn care, tree trimming, irrigation repairs, shrub and flower bed pruning, remodeling, mulching, and cleanup, and exterior home repairs (gutters, pressure washing, painting).

2022 BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

Fiber 'n Forge – Sept. 2022 ^&

This craft store, situated next to the Subway shop on School St., offered gifts that were handcrafted by the three family members. These included items like embroidered towels, glass plate4s and bowls, and resin pendants.

Due to a death in the family in November, this shop had to close down.


Wolf Storage – June10 2022

This business added to its statewide facilities by taking over the former Allenstown Self-Storage facility on the north end of Route 28. They offer storage units for rent ranging from 5x10 ft up to 10x30 ft, all at reasonable prices. The larger units (outside the security fence) are popular with contractors for storing work equipment.


Tender Years Childcare – May 2022

This child learning center on Chester Turnpike has for 30 years provided an atmosphere that encourages social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development, as a whole from the age of six weeks through twelve years. They expanded their operation by removing unwanted trailers and installing a new paved parking lot to the left of the facility.

2021 BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

Allenstown Aggregate –Dec. 2021

This quarry operation on Granite St. began construction of a six-unit multi-tenant commercial building for uses such as a warehouse, contractor shop, retail hardware sales, repair shop, or service business.

The site plan was approved by the Planning Board back in November 2020.


Allenstown Self-Storage – Oct. 2021

This facility on Route 28 began construction of an additional row of self-storage units and an office. The new units were to be built outside the security fence.


Everbrook Senior Living – July 2021

The company opened its new Sales Office for Hillsbrook Village, the assisted living facility under construction at Route 28 and Chester Turnpike. The sales office was located in Unit 4 behind the Elliot Family Health Center at 50 Pinewood Rd. (Route 28).


Suncook River Family Camp – April 2021

This camp (formerly Twin Oaks Campground) at 80 Pinewood Rd. (Rte. 28) was recently purchased and was being extensively renovated. A great deal of trash and abandoned travel trailers were removed. Renovations were to include the camp store, bathhouse, inground swimming pool, and camp sites. A music stage and corn hole game area were also planned.


SpareBox Storage – Feb. 2021 This storage company bought out 603 Storage which had opened in July 2019. Improvements included an electronic security gate, e-mail billing, payment by check or online, and military discounts.

2020 BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

Nouria Energy – Dec. 2020

Nouria acquired four MEGA-X stores, one of which is in Allenstown. Nouria bills itself as "one of New England's largest and most trusted family-owned and operated convenience stores and fuel retailers.

This can be considered another win for Allenstown since Nouria Energy considers itself a "Best in Class" retailer.

Optimus Senior Living – Nov. 2020

This Massachusetts company started clearing land in preparation for building construction. This follows site plan approval by the Planning Board and approval of an RSA 79-E tax exemption by the Selectmen.

Things went slowly for a while as Optimus negotiated several conditions with the town engineer, finalized the purchase and sale agreement with the seller, and obtained financing for the project.

In November, construction crews arrived to cut down trees, pull stumps, grade the site, spread sand for the roadways and parking lots, and install stormwater drainage pipes. As of March 2021, numerous construction machines were working on the site.

Brady Sullivan and China Mill – Nov. 2020
Construction crews started renovating the China Mill by removing old windows, doors, and interior remnants.


Allenstown Aggregate – Nov. 2020 received final approval of their site plan for a six-unit commercial building.

Brady Sullivan - China Mill Conversion Approved – Sept. 2020

Brady Sullivan received conditional approval from the Planning Board in early September for converting the China Mill on Canal St. to offer 150 upscale apartments and various amenities. In late September, they received approval from the Selectmen of their application for an RSA 79-E tax exemption.

Allenstown Aggregate Commercial Building Approved – Sept. 2020 This business received conditional approval from the Planning Board for a six-unit commercial building at the front end of the quarry.


Suncook River Convenience Store Repaved – Aug. 2020
After doing a complete renovation of the store on Route 28, the owners repaved the entire parking lot giving the property that "Brand New" look.

Optimus Senior Living Construction Approved – Aug. 2020
Optimus received conditional approval from the Planning Board for a 126-unit assisted living facility to be built at the corner of Route 28 and Chester Turnpike.


Allenstown Aggregate Subdivision Approved – July 2020
The quarry received approval for a five-acre subdivision at the front end of their property. They are also seeking approval to build a six-unit commercial building.


Flame Mobile Pizza Oven – June 2020
A new part-time business opened on River Road. Having purchased the business from a previous owner, it is under new, Allenstown management. This unique business uses a wood-fired brick oven to cook a large variety of unique pizzas.

The menu includes everything from your basic cheese pie to selections like Chicken Broccoli Alfredo, Chicken Bacon Ranch, and Barbecued Chicken.

Family Dollar Renovated – August 2019
This summer, the Family Dollar store went through some major renovations. This included new building signage, repaved parking lot, and redesigned interior layout.

Hooksett Rent-a-Tool Opens – May 2020
Formerly operating from a location on the Route 28 Bypass, this business moved into quarters next to Dunkin Donuts. This family-owned equipment company rents outdoor equipment for small and large projects, and also sells new and used equipment, as well as parts for your own equipment.


Allenstown Self-Storage – Apr. 2020
This facility at 286 Pinewood Rd. (Rte. 28 near the Pembroke town line) received approval to build additional storage sheds. Construction was expected in the near future.


EDC Capital Reserve Fund – Mar. 2020
Voters approved additional capital reserve funding to help the EDC with its many projects and initiatives.


Hooksett Rent-a-Tool – Jan. 2020
Grossman Suncook received approval for a tool rental business at 43 Allenstown Rd. next to Dunkin Donuts. The new business, Hooksett Rent-A-Tool, was expected to open soon.

2019 BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

Morgan Storage Opens Three New Businesses – Nov. 2019
A positive development was the sale of the old Key-Loc property on Chester Turnpike and the adjacent parcel back in March 2018. In September 2019, Mr. Charlie Morgan announced that three new businesses (Vault Motor Storage, Morgan Records Management,and Granite State Shuttle Service) would be moving into the facility and be operating by November.

Hudson Quarry Does Total Makeover of Big Jim's Outlet – August 2019
Hudson Quarry Corp. bought the former Big Jim's Outlet in mid-December 2018 for $715,000, which was below the asking price of $870,000. The old storage sheds were demolished and removed, and the main building was remodeled. In July 2019, they renovated the front building for use as their main showroom and were soon open for business.

Brady Sullivan Purchases China Mill – August 2019
A prospective buyer met with town officials about converting the Suncook Mill, which was up for sale, into upscale apartments. The buyer worked with the Selectmen and the Planning Board to extend the RSA 79-E Incentive Zone to the mill and convert it to a residential/commercial zone. Voters approved the changes at an Oct. 23, 2019 special election. The mill was purchased by Brady Sullivan Properties and they began developing detailed plans for the conversion.

603 Storage - Brand New Self-Storage Facility – July 2019
On May 30, 2018, the Planning Board approved the plans for a self-storage facility at 15 Chester Turnpike. When asked why they chose Allenstown, the answer was that they wanted a location near a population center and at least several miles from any existing storage facility. Allenstown fit their criteria.

As of mid-July 2019, the sheds were pretty much completed, the driveways were paved, and the business sign was installed. The view is facing west toward Sully's. In early September, the owner was so busy that he decided to forego a Grand Opening.


Suncook River Convenience Store Total Makeover – July 2019
In July 2019, the store on Route 28 in Allenstown, NH held its Grand Re-Opening. Owner Jay Patel said he "wanted to introduce people to the best quality of food available in the area. The store has always maintained high standards and takes pride in the food they serve."

Visitors quickly learned that the interior had been given a complete makeover and felt more spacious than it used to.

2018 BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

Morgan Storage – March 2018
Developer Charlie Morgan purchased the long vacant Key-Loc warehouses on Chester Turnpike and planned to renovate the property and lease it to commercial businesses.


Business Tax Exemption – March 2018
EDC Members worked hard to develop a proposal, and then a warrant article, and convince the Selectmen to add it to the town warrant. We thank you, the voters, for affirming our efforts at the ballot box. Voters approved a new Business Tax Exemption promoted by the Economic Development Committee (EDC). It passed with 70% of voters in favor.
