A Fun Afternoon

For several days ahead of the concert date, the weather forecast kept holding to a mostly cloudy day with rain showers, chance of showers, or scattered showers. But September 13th dawned sunny with a light breeze. By show time, temps were in the 70s with no sign of rain.

The band arrived at around 3:00 and went to work setting up their gear. The Fire Dept. Auxiliary pulled in with two truck loads of equipment and set up their tables, canopy, and supplies.

By 4:00, it was show time but very few people had arrived. The lawn looked so empty. But the EDC chairman decided it was time to get started, went up the gazebo, welcomed everyone, announced the band, and then they were off and playing.

Within a half-hour, cars were pulling into the parking lot and people were walking in from the street. As you can see in the photos, spray chalk was used to mark out six-foot squares to keep people at a safe distance from each other.

A number of people decided to set up near the food concession.

Several women were getting enthusiastic about the music, and started dancing in place to the music. It looked like they were doing an old dance called "The Swim." They really got in the groove when the band played "Margaritaville."

Just before the mid-concert break, a quick head count gave a total attendance of over 70 people. That was almost as many as had attended the August 2nd concert.

Meanwhile, the Fire Department was busy serving food. Due to virus concerns, they wore gloves and masks and limited their menu to hot dogs, chips, and soda. They also added your choice of garnish to minimize food handling.

A food platter was going for only $2.00 so some people came back for seconds. Such a deal!

As the concert got into its second hour, several people took up positions in a semicircle about 20 feet from the bandstand. Such intrepid concert goers!

What You Can Do

Send a note of appreciation to the EDC. They organize these events to build up community spirit, to provide residents with some enjoyment right in their own town, and to bring neighbors together to share in a good time.

Be sure to come for the First Town Movie Night on Sept. 26. This takes place at Blueberry Express in front of Town Hall. Bring lawn chairs and warm clothing to stay comfortable.
